Have you ever asked yourself what you can do for the Lord in the way of investing your money that will have lasting significance? Let me introduce you to Pastor Marcial Pavone and his ministries in the nation of Honduras. If ever there was a place in need of funding and a place where God is clearly working, this is it.

Marcial is a native Honduran with American citizenship. He married Janice Moore, the daughter of an American missionary to Honduras, and not long after that came to live in Georgia, due to a life-threatening illness of one of Janice's aunts. While in the US Marcial began preparing to enter the ministry, but had a great deal of difficulty with the English language. With God's help, Marcial graduated from Covington Theological Seminary.

During a daily devotional, Marcial was reading Mark 5 about Jesus entering the country of the Gaderenes and cleansing the demon possessed man. Marcial read verse 19 where Jesus told the man, "Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee". Marcial knew that God's calling for him was to return to Honduras and preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the lost.

The small Baptist church that Marcial and his family attended established a non-profit governing board to assist with the Honduran ministry, the Calvary Mission Board. The board handles all of the contributions given to the ministry at no cost to Marcial and no administrative cost, funneling 100% of the contributions to the Honduras ministry.

In 1994, Marcial, Janice, three children born in the U.S. and the family pets loaded onto a used yellow school bus and began the journey to Honduras. Thirteen days later, after many trials and set backs, they arrived in Tegucigalpa, the capital city of Honduras. The family began to pass out literature and Marcial began preaching in churches and at the 10,000 student high school, Central High. That was 14 years ago as of February 2008. Since that time thousands of high school students have come to know Christ as their personnel Savior.

Eleven years ago Marcial purchased what had been a soccer field and established the Baptist Church of Los Izotos. The church is in one of the poorest barios (neighborhoods) in Tegucigalpa, and the area is heavily influenced by gangs. Just a few short years later, groups from the United States began to make yearly trips to work with Marcial and his small congregation. Medical/dental groups, Vacation Bible School groups, construction teams and others all came to assist Marcial in the Lord's work.

A congregation that once was only 25 is now over 150. The congregation that once met in a two-room wooden structure now has a three-story brick building. Marcial and his family live on the first floor, the church meets on the second and third floors. The original wooden structure is still in use. The membership is still desperately poor measured in the standards of money and those of us living in America. They are rich beyond words in the love of the Lord and the desire to spread the Gospel.

The little church of Los Izotos has established 4 missions. Marcial has raised up and trained ministers to work in these churches. One of the missions in the valley of Zaracarran is a three-hour one-way, arduous drive in a off-road vehicle just to get to it. This mission, started at the request of a neighbor of the Los Izotos church, began with just a handful of converts, but is now a congregation of 50 and growing. A ministry team from Los Izotos goes to the area every 15 days with a generator, Bibles and the Word of God. They now have a piece of land and are awaiting funding for construction of a church building.

The high school ministry begun by Marcial 14 years ago is still flourishing. Marcial spends a great deal of his time teaching and preaching to the lost young men and women of the huge Central High School. Untold hundreds have come to know Christ as their Savior through this ministry. They are introduced to churches in their neighborhood for church homes.

What can you do to help? The ministry is in desperate need of a new truck. The vehicle used by Marcial for 14 years is not operable after 500,000 plus miles of travel. Your contribution through the Calvary Mission Board can assist the ministry in purchasing a new, 4 wheel drive, diesel, crew cab pick up truck. The truck is needed to continue the ministries to the missions and to the high schools. Without a replacement truck, Marcial and his congregation is dependent of one vehicle besides the original school bus to get to the ministry areas and missions established by the Los Izotos church.

This is not an impossible task. A few years back, another group of individuals helped raise funds for the purchase of a second pick up truck that is still in use today.

Contributions, no matter how large or small, may be sent to the Calvary Mission Board, 261 Cochran Road, Chatsworth, GA, 30705. Make the check out to the Calvary Mission Board and place a notation on your check "New Truck Fund". If you want an end-of-the-year tax letter, be sure to include a note with your contribution stating this. Our desire is to raise $14,000.00 as soon as possible to purchase a new truck and get it into service for the Glory of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ.

There are several other areas within the ministry in Honduras that can use continual funding. Should you have an interest in being a part of the on-going efforts through the Calvary Mission Board, please contact Mike and he can direct you to people who will greatly appreciate the time to share with you about how you can help.
