We have now found the grave of Great Grandfather, Henry John Prichard.  When we talked to the Cartaker, he showed us the Ash Creek Cemetery Registry.  That record showed Henry John Prichard is buried in the first grave of his  family plot, next to Great Grandmother, Sarah Jane Prichard in the Ash Creek Cemetery, Azle, Parker Co. TX.  Both graves are almost hidden beneath a very large trumpet vine.

According to the cemetery records, there are still two un-named or unused slots in Henry John Prichard's family plot, however there may be other children buried there.  Parker County tax records show that Henry John Prichard did own land near Azle when he died Dec. 2nd 1896.  Those records farther show that "Mrs. Henry John Prichard" (that would be Nancy A. PENNINGTON Prichard, H.J.'s second wife whom he married after Sarah Jane died Jan. 27, 1879) continued to pay taxes each year through 1900, at least.  Nancy A. Prichard is buried in the Duncan Municipal Cemetery , Stephens Co., Oklahoma .  Her grave is next to John Henry Prichard and his wife, Sophia Elzora WOOD Prichard.

Henry John Prichard's stone appears to have been upright at one time as was Sarah Jane's, but is now broken off very near the ground and missing. Only a base and small piece of the slab remain and is unreadble.  Sarah Jane's stone has been carefully preserved by someone... it is lying flat and encased in concrete.  Her head stone reads:

SARAH JANE PRICHARD
WIFE OF
H. J. PRICHARD
Aug. 17, 1834    Jan  27, 1879

Sarah Jane Prichard's stones are is in Row 4E (from the church) grave # 20.  Numbers run from the S end of the church.  We did some minor trimming of the trumpet vine so we could read and photograph the stone.   She has a small white "foot stone" with just SJP on it as well as the old head stone which had been broken.  The stone now lies flat as you can see.  The broken upright stones in front of me appear to have been part of some kind of enclosure border....notice the slot cut in the one nearest the camera. It looks like it was used to hold a stone or slate slab much like the broken piece of Henry John's maker - hidden by the bush.

The cemetery book shows grave slots # 19 being Henry John and #20 being  Sarah Jane.  Slots # 21, #22 and beyond are not  occupied, but note the bases mentioned.

One of their sons, John Henry Prichard, born May/10/1869 in Sylamore twp., Izard Co., AR came with them to Parker County before 1880.  He married Sophia Elzora Wood in Tarrant Co. Texas.

John Henry Prichard married, Sophia Elzora Wood, December 5, 1887.
He was 18 1/2,  she was exactly 14 years old.
Both are buried in Duncan Municipal Cemetery, Stephens Co., Oklahoma.

Parents of Grandmother Sophia Elzora Wood are also in the Ashcreek Cemetery, Azle, Parker Co. Texas.
They are just down the hill from the Prichards.

Great Grandfather
Robert T. Wood.

Great Grandfather Robert T. Wood's stone is distinctive in the placement of an open Bible on the top of the lecturn shaped stone.

Great Grandmother, Polly Ann (Bush) Wood is buried beside him according to the cemetery caretaker and the cemetery records.  She died in 1933.  Unfortunately there is no stone marking her grave.

Their son (brother to Sophia), Robert W. Wood, his wife, Pearl and their infant son, Monroe are in the Wood Family Plot.
